Draupadi Murmu has won the race by a significant margin against her opposing candidate Yashwant Sinha
Murmu, who belongs to a tribal community in Odisha
will be the first Adivasi woman to occupy the country’s top constitutional post.
Murmu is likely to take oath on July 25 with incumbent President Ram Nath Kovind's tenure ending on July 24.
Draupadi Murmu was born in 1958, in the district of Mayurbhanj in Odisha
She lost both her sons and her husband several years back. She has a daughter Itishri Murmu who works at UCO bank in Odisha.
Murmu first joined politics in 1997 when she was elected councilor of the district board in Rairangpur.
Murmu served twice as an MLA and once as a minister in the BJD-BJP coalition government in Odisha,
