While there have been a few modifications to the US ranking of the universities, the country is still an educational stronghold. More than a quarter of the top 100 universities worldwide and fifty percent of the top 10 are American. Which ones are the very best or the most prestigious?

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

In fact, MIT has been ranked as the top school around the globe for the past nine years. MIT has received top marks in all six criteria for ranking: academic reputation, the reputation of employers, student-faculty ratio, and international faculty. The school also scored close to 100 on the international student ratio and research-related citations.

2. Stanford University

Despite this, Stanford remains one of the most sought-after universities in the US. In the middle of Silicon Valley, Stanford is often referred to as a “billionaire factory’ because its alumni have become one of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Stanford has top marks in three areas: academic reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, and employer reputation. The perfect scores contribute to its status as the 2nd-best school in the US as well as around the globe. But, with a rating of 63.6, Stanford could stand to increase its student-to-international ratio.

3. Harvard University

Harvard University comes at the top of the list within the US. Regarding efficiency, Harvard pulled in perfect scores for its research and employability rankings criteria. While Harvard has the top spot in the rankings, it’s still not far ahead of the other universities in terms of the number of international students, which is why international students make up only 15% of its total student body.

While this is definitely a metric that the university can improve, it’s still at the top of the list for many other criteria, establishing Harvard as one of the best universities in the US and the entire world.

4. University of California Berkeley (UCB)

It is reported that the University of California Berkeley holds the fourth spot for a second year. The UCB’s consistent performance can be attributed to its 100 percent score for both employer and academic reputation. It also has a nearly perfect score for the number of citations per faculty. Also, the university has a very high proportion of international professors.

5. University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is the University of California’s affiliate located in sunny Los Angeles and has moved to the top of the list for this year. UCLA was awarded a top rating of 100 points for its academic standing and nearly perfect scores for its reputation as an employer with a score of 99.9. Despite high scores in both of these factors, UCLA’s score of 26.7 for its ratio of international students shows that there is a lot to be improved regarding the number of international students at UCLA.

6. Yale University

Yale University consistently appears on the list of most prestigious 10 US universities. It is among the top highly regarded universities around the globe; Yale scores especially high in terms of student-to-faculty ratios, academic reputation, and employer reputation. In actual fact, Yale is ranked 13th globally in graduate employability, making it one of the top performing US schools on the list.

7. Columbia University

Columbia University is New York City’s Ivy League university and is rated 100 percent by QS’s ratio of faculty members to students. It could have something to do with have to do with Columbia being among the most exclusive colleges across the United States. Columbia has an acceptance rate of 5.8 percent, making 2021 the most difficult year for students to get into Columbia University.

8. Princeton University

The university was founded in 1746. Princeton was established in 1746. It is among the most prestigious colleges in the US and is ranked high on the international and national levels. The quality of research conducted by the university is among the top anywhere in the world, achieving an impressive 100 ranking of faculty citations. Princeton’s diversity is remarkable; international students make up 23.4 percent of the university’s more than 8000 students.

9. New York University (NYU)

New York University has earned a place on the list of 2021’s top schools across the US. NYU has its campus in the heart of Manhattan and received nearly perfect scores in all four of the six criteria for ranking, which include the reputation of the institution’s academics, the reputation of its employers, the student-to-faculty ratio, and the ratio of international students. It estimates that 27.6 percent of its students are comprised of international students.

10. University of Pennsylvania

The University of Pennsylvania cracked the top 10 list this year, and it’s likely that its student-to-faculty ratio, as well as its academic reputation, were key factors in its position at the top of the list. It is located in Philadelphia and surrounding areas, and the University of Pennsylvania stands apart from other Ivy League universities regarding diversity. A surprisingly high 51 percent student body comprises visible minority students, and more than half (55 percent) of the students are female.
